CRRC Instructor Program

With over 60 years of experience, believe us when we say that the best way to learn how to properly build a plane and learn how to fly is with an instructor on your side. While our members build and fly all types of aircraft, at this time our volunteer instructors mainly specialize in gliders and electric powered planes. Our instructors will:

  • Provide FREE instruction to our new members
  • Help you choose an appropriate trainer
  • Provide guidance to build or assemble your plane
  • Inspect and trim your plane for the maiden flight
  • Teach you how to fly, including with a "buddy box" controller which allows the instructor to hand off or take back control of the aircraft

Avoid crashing on your first launch or take-off!

Flying model airplanes is not that difficult. However, it takes a little time to build your RC pilot skills. You could teach yourself how to fly at a high cost. Or, you can learn faster and have fewer crashes if you work with an instructor for your first few flights.

CRRC Volunteer Instructors

Fuel Powered Instructors: Please contact the Millis Model Aircraft Club. We share the Bill Martin Field.
Helicopters Instructors: Please contact the New England Heli Crew. They specialize in RC helicopters..

The club maintains a list of volunteer instructors, who can give advice and training on all aspects of building, flying, or other RC airplane skills. Lessons can be arranged at mutual convenience, and are offered free as a service of the club. We have instructors and other members with experience in a broad spectrum of RC activities including:

  • soaring & gliders (electric powered, winch-launched, and hand-launched)
  • gas, glo, and electric powered airplanes
  • 3D and aerobatic flight
  • helicopters
  • multi-rotor / drones
  • FPV and freestyle mini quads
  • building & repairing balsa and composite planes, foam and foamboard planes, and multi-rotors

To learn more or arrange a lesson, please contact our Chief Instructor on the contact page, come to a club meeting, or reach out to one of the specific instructors listed in our monthly newsletter.
